John Terence Cartwright ( Terry ) passed away on 11 Dec 2012.

He was the first Chairman of the Clowne Community Association from 2000 to 2007 and was instrumental in the original establishment of the Association. Initially he was involved in the Clowne Health Check that a Bolsover Council officer was helpful in managing with a strong partnership ethos between public, private and community sectors. He brought a sound knowledge of local government from his previous working experience and a commitment to openness and fairness in how the Association operated. He was keen to ensure that the Association did not find itself embroiled in insulting or aggressive treatment of any opinion expressed by anyone attending and to allow all opinions to be heard even-handedly. His calmness and insight in meetings and his keen sense of humour we will always remember with gratefulness and we will feel his loss for some time.
During his time as Chairman Terry was instrumental in the Association seeking to influence the following key developments: New Tesco store development plans, Mill Street one way traffic, New Chesterfield College site, Springs Health Centre, Old College site housing development and saving the old Girls School from demolition, the new CVP (Community Voluntary Partnership ) set up.
He was also involved directly in the group activities such as Clowne in Bloom and fund raising efforts and when he passed the baton of Chair on to our current leader he still remained a firm source of advice, and a sounding board for how the Association continue to operate, as Vice Chair. His guiding hand we will still continue to feel around us. Our new Chair Allan Bailey expressed his thanks for Terry’s continued help to “the new boy” in his role as Chairman with always constructive advice on how to manage situations and avoid the pitfalls of competing demands.
